Essential Riding Gear
Long Pants: Essential to prevent leg chafing against the saddle. Avoid shorts.
Sturdy Boots: Hiking boots are better than flat sneakers. They should have good grip, as you will occasionally dismount and walk on steep or rocky sections.
Riding Gloves: Even if you aren’t a pro, holding leather reins for 6 hours a day can cause blisters.
The weather in the mountains (2,000m+) can change in minutes.
The “Three-Layer” Rule: A moisture-wicking t-shirt, a warm fleece/sweater, and a windproof jacket.
Serious Rain Gear: Bring a high-quality raincoat or a heavy-duty poncho.
Warm Hat & Spare Socks: Even in July, the nights in villages like Bochorna get chilly.
Sunscreen & Lip Balm: The mountain sun is much stronger at high altitudes; you will burn quickly without protection.
Sunglasses & Wide-brimmed Hat: Crucial for long hours in open valleys.
Power Bank: Guesthouses have limited sockets, and after a long day, everyone wants to charge their phones at once.
Personal Medications: There are no pharmacies in Tusheti.
Wet Wipes & Sanitizer: Very useful for trail lunches and when staying in rustic guesthouses.
Reusable Water Bottle: Aim for a 1.5–2 liter capacity.
Use a soft duffel bag instead of a hard suitcase. Duffel bags are much easier to strap onto horses.
Helmets are provided for safety.
