This 5-day adventure takes you to the panoramic vistas of the Svanetian Greater Caucasus, the remote and picturesque village of Ushguli — Europe’s highest inhabited settlement, to the majestic Chalaadi and Shkhara Glaciers, and to the Shdugra waterfalls – which are among the highest and most impressive waterfalls in Georgia.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Mestia

Start your horse riding adventure in Georgia with a transfer to Mestia, the capital of the Svaneti region. This journey offers a stunning introduction to the rugged beauty of the Georgian landscapes, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Free Time in Mestia: Upon arrival, spend the afternoon relaxing and exploring Mestia at your leisure. Wander through its cobblestone streets and medieval Svan towers. You can visit the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography to learn about the region’s history, culture, and traditions; explore Margiani’s House Museum to get a glimpse into the daily life and architecture of the Svaneti inhabitants, or climb to the rooftop of the Mikheil Khergiani House Museum tower for an exhilarating experience and a unique vantage point over Mestia and its medieval towers

Overnight: Stay overnight in Mestia. Enjoy the hospitality of a local guesthouse and savor traditional Svaneti cuisine.

Day 2Chalaadi Glacier Horse Ride

Morning:
Start your day with a ride from Mestia to the Chalaadi Glacier. Dismount at the micro dam (1600m elevation) with a possibility to hike the remaining 2.5 km to the bottom of the glacier (1800m elevation).

Afternoon:
Enjoy a packed lunch surrounded by stunning glacial views, then return to Mestia for another cozy night at your guesthouse, sampling more traditional dishes.

Day 34x4 drive to Mazeri and ride to Shdugra Waterfalls

Morning to Afternoon:

Start your day with an exciting 4×4 drive from Mestia to Mazeri, a picturesque village located about 20 km away. The drive itself offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
From Mazeri, set off on a horseback ride through the scenic trail leading to the Shdugra Waterfalls.

Afternoon:

Ride back to Mazeri village, where you can have a picnic lunch or enjoy a meal at a local guesthouse.

Late Afternoon:

Drive back to Mestia and relax for the evening. You might want to explore more of Mestia’s charming streets or visit any sites you missed on the first day.

Day 44x4 drive Mestia-Ushguli and ride to Shkhara Glacier

Morning:

Set out early for a 4×4 drive to Ushguli, one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe, located about 45 km from Mestia. The drive offers spectacular views of Svaneti landscape.

Late Morning:

Once in Ushguli, take some time to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Lamaria Church and enjoy the unique medieval atmosphere of the village with its iconic Svan towers.

Afternoon:

- From Ushguli, set off on a horseback ride towards the Shkhara Glacier, the highest peak in Georgia. The ride follows the Enguri River and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
- Once you reach the end of the horse trail, you can hike the remaining 2.5 km to the bottom of the Shkhara Glacier (elevation 2250m) for an up-close experience of this natural wonder.

Late Afternoon:

Ride back to Ushguli and then take the 4×4 back to Mestia, enjoying the sunset views along the way.

Evening:

Spend your last evening in Mestia at a local guesthouse, enjoying traditional Svanetian cuisine.

Day 5Departure from Mestia

Morning: After breakfast, prepare for the transfer out of Mestia. You might have some free time for last-minute exploration or shopping for local crafts.

Afternoon: Depart from Mestia.

You will be able to carry up to 20 kg of luggage with your horse during the tour. Your bags will be accessible throughout the journey. We recommend bringing a small backpack for items you need frequently.

Do I need prior riding experience?

No prior riding experience is necessary. This tour is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders.

What is the cancellation policy?

We offer refund for bookings made up to 7 days before the tour’s scheduled start date. If you decide to cancel your booking within 6 days of the tour’s commencement, a 50% refund will be issued. However, if the tour is canceled within 24 hours of its scheduled start time, no refund will be provided.
