Frozen lakes, proud Icelandic horses competing on ice, steaming geothermal baths, and — if you’re lucky — the magic of the northern lights above your saddle.
This winter riding adventure is based at a family-run farm near Mývatn, where hot tubs steam under snowy skies and horses wait by the frozen shore. Over four days, you’ll ride across icy landscapes, watch unique Icelandic riding competitions, and soak in some of the country’s most beautiful geothermal pools.

Farm holiday acoomodation in shared rooms with made up beds
Meet your guide at Reykjavík Domestic Airport and fly north to Akureyri. From there, you’ll be welcomed by your host, Halldór, and driven to the peaceful Bjarnastaðir farm.
Share a warm, home-cooked dinner with your group, soak in the outdoor hot tub, and settle into the rhythm of Icelandic winter.
First snow, first soak, first connection.
After breakfast, you’ll meet your horse at the edge of Lake Mývatn — frozen and glimmering.
Ride together across the iced lake, feeling the unique gait of the Icelandic horse beneath you.
After warm waffles and coffee at Selhótel, end the day in the soothing geothermal waters of the Mývatn Nature Baths.
Ride ice, eat waffles, float in steam.
Today, you’ll return to Lake Mývatn as a spectator — to watch hundreds of Icelanders compete in traditional events on the ice: tölt, pace, and more.
Afterward, weather permitting, saddle up for a night ride beneath the northern lights — one of the most unforgettable ways to experience Iceland.
Horses, Ice, Stars – You’ll never forget this one.
